What’s the difference between Botox, Xeomin, Dysport, Daxxify and Jeuveau?

All five are FDA-approved botulinum toxin type A products designed to reduce wrinkles by relaxing muscles. However, they differ in formulation, onset, duration, and unique features. Our experience provider can help determine the best option for your needs.

Is there downtime after treatment?

Dysport (aka abobotulinumtoxinA) is also an injectable neuromodulator that smooths fine lines and wrinkles for up to four months. It’s FDA-approved to treat moderate to severe frown lines, also called glabellar lines or “11s,” between the eyebrows.

Dysport is a form of botulinum toxin type A, so it’s similar to Botox. Like its competitors, Dysport works by temporarily blocking the communication between nerves and muscles, to stop injected facial muscles from contracting and wrinkling the overlying skin. The process of blocking muscle contractions doesn’t damage skin or muscle, but it gets rid of crow’s feet, frown lines, and other creases that appear when you make facial expressions.

Xeomin® (incobotulinumtoxinA) is a prescription medication injected into muscles and used to temporarily improve the appearance of moderate to severe frown lines between the eyebrows (glabellar lines) in adults. Xeomin® contains botulinum toxin type A, a protein purified from the bacterium Clostridium botulinum.

When you squint or frown, the muscles between your eyebrows contract, causing the skin to furrow and fold. Over time, as your skin ages and loses some of its elasticity, these repeated contractions can cause persistent frown lines. Botulinum toxin type A – the active ingredient in Xeomin®– acts on nerve endings in muscles to prevent muscle fibers from contracting. By reducing these contractions, Xeomin® can temporarily reduce the lines between your eyebrows.

Jeuveau® is the newest wrinkle-smoothing injectable toxin to gain FDA approval to temporarily improve the look of moderate to severe frown lines between the eyebrows (the glabellar lines, or “elevens”).

Although its official name is Jeuveau, it’s commonly marketed as #Newtox across social media and by many provider offices.

Like Botox, Dysport, and Xeomin, Jeuveau is a neuromodulator that, when injected, relaxes (and at higher doses, paralyzes) the nerves that signal muscles to flex. By keeping muscles from making particular repeated movements, Jeuveau helps prevent new lines from forming and softens those that have already made their mark.

This “purified” form of botulinum toxin A (BTX-A), prabotulinumtoxinA, has a molecular weight similar to that of Botox, with similar risks and side effects.

What is the Treatment Process.

This treatment is a quick procedure where small amounts of the botulinum toxin are injected into targeted muscles using a fine needle. The treatment typically takes about 5 to 10 minutes. There is minimal discomfort, and no anesthesia is required. Numbing cream is optional.
